Project description:

Oxide Dispersion Strengthened Ferritic Stainless Steels (ODS FS) are promising structural materials for high-temperature applications in fission reactors and future fusion devices.  The project goal is to demonstrate at an industrial scale the capability of the STARS method to produce ODS FS with mechanical properties close to the values obtained with the conventional method, which uses the Mechanical Alloying to introduce the yttrium as an alloying element. This will require a deep understanding of the diffusion and precipitation mechanisms involved in the STARS method to obtain the appropriate distribution of oxide nanoparticles.

The tasks of ISSP UL:

XAS characterization of STARS ODS steel at different stages of production
