Student Deep Science Hackathon 2023

From October 20 to 22, the fifth "Student Deep Science Hackathon" jointly organized by the Institute of Solid State Physics (LU CFI) and partners took place in the Nature House of the University of Latvia (LU), in which the title of best idea and the main prize - 2000 EUR - was won by "SafeSight", an idea related to artificial intelligence and augmented reality.

The idea developed by the winning team of this year's "Student Deep Science Hackathon" - Kristers Katkevičs-Čirkovas, Jēkabs Čudars, Markuss Namajs, Marta Paula Šadinova, Eduards Žeirs - is an augmented reality glasses and technology that would allow with the help of artificial intelligence recognizing potential hazards and dangerous objects on construction sites, as well as provide the user with instructions for safe work when working with various tools and equipment.

The second place of the Hackathon and the cash prize of 500 EUR was won by the team of students and pupils "LATSAT". But teams "PowerPulse" and "EmpowerAI" received special motivation awards. Congratulations to all 14 teams that participated in this year's Student Deep Science Hackathon!

The international hackathon "Student Deep Science Hackathon" was organized as a workshop for creating and developing new innovative ideas, intended for students and senior students who want to form interdisciplinary teams with innovation potential and create interesting ideas in the fields of science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics. During the hackathon, participants were provided with the support of professional mentors, a co-working environment and information for commercialization steps.

The hackathon was organized by the LU CFI and the LU CFI Foundation in cooperation with the LU Student Council and the youth organization "The Raccoons".
