On March 9, at 1 pm, a joint scientific seminar of the Institute of Solid State Physics of the University of Latvia and the Doctoral School of the University of Latvia "Functional Materials and Nanotechnologies" will take place.

The topic of the seminar: "From molecules to drugs or discovery projects of new drugs in the Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Pharmacology".

Lecturer: Leading researcher of the Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis, prof. pharm. Maija Dambrova.

During the seminar prof. Dambrova will talk about the methods used in laboratory research. The Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Pharmacology was established in 2001 to discover new target proteins for drugs, to study the molecular mechanisms of drug substances, and to test the biological activities of newly synthesized compounds in close collaboration with the pharmaceutical industry. Research is underway in the fields of cardiovascular, central nervous system and molecular pharmacology, with the active publication and patenting of work. Experimental methods include in vivo and in vitro models, the use of cell cultures, isolated tissues and mitochondria, and the analysis of gene expression.
