The Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia is announcing an open competition for the position of Director of the institute
The Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia (ISSP UL) is one of Latvia’s leading scientific research centers in materials science and solid-state physics, playing a significant role in the development of Latvian science and in international cooperation. The institute invites applications for the position of Director from individuals who meet the requirements listed below and are prepared to assume responsibility for the strategic management of the institute.
Requirements for candidates:
PhD in the natural sciences or in engineering and technology;
At least 5 (five) years of administrative work experience;
Experience in preparing and managing national and international research projects;
Experience authoring high-level, internationally recognized scientific publications;
Member on boards of scientific institutions or other relevant bodies;
Knowledge of the Latvian regulatory framework governing scientific activities;
Strong communication and personnel management skills;
Language skills adhering to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages:
proficiency in the official language in accordance with the laws and regulations of the Republic of Latvia (C1);
English proficiency (B2);
Knowledge of additional foreign languages will be considered an asset;
Unblemished reputation.

Copies of documents certifying academic and scientific degrees (for degrees obtained abroad – a statement from the Academic Information Center confirming their equivalence to a degree awarded in Latvia);
CV, detailing research, academic, administrative, and organizational work experience, as well as a list of published works;
Cover letter;
A written outline (up to 5 A4 pages) of the ISSP UL director's work strategy, including a vision for the institute’s scientific and financial development, international cooperation, staff development, and structural changes, as well as short-term and long-term action plans;
Other documents attesting to the candidate's competence, skills, and knowledge (optional).
