On June 11 and 12, Amsterdam is hosting one of the world's largest deep-tech events – the Hello Tomorrow Global Summit 2026, which brings together more than 3,000 investors, entrepreneurs, and scientists from all over the world.
In cooperation with international experts, the biomedical and photonics research platform BioPhoT selected 10 Latvian research teams through a fierce competition (out of more than 25 applications) to present Latvia's innovation potential in a joint delegation at the Hello Tomorrow Global Summit for the first time.
Among the selected projects is GENEX – Universal DNA Extraction Module, developed by the Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia (ISSP UL). It is a compact platform that significantly simplifies DNA isolation directly at the point of sampling. Utilizing a unique 3D electrode grid, this solution enables a faster and more efficient extraction process, making genetic testing more accessible and affordable, which is critical for personalized medicine and rapid disease diagnosis.
As part of the event, the team has the opportunity to participate in the exclusive Investor Day, directly engaging with global industry leaders. "The event is highly significant for acquiring new partners, networking with potential end-users of the technology, and having the opportunity to speak directly with various types of investors – from angel investors to venture capital funds," reports Maira Elksne, Head of the Laboratory of Micro and Nano Devices at ISSP UL, from Amsterdam.
“Participation in such an event is a strategically significant opportunity for Latvian science to position itself in the global market,” emphasizes Andris Baumanis, the project selection manager. “It is a step towards the purposeful transformation of research ideas into commercially viable solutions.”
Latvia's deep-tech achievements are presented at the summit at a special booth with “Visionary Partner” status, which the BioPhoT platform secured in cooperation with the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) and the Riga Investment and Tourism Agency (RITA). Representation on this scale is only logical – according to the Hello Tomorrow Global Deep Tech Pioneers Radar 2026, Latvia currently ranks an impressive 7th in the world for the number of deep-tech startups per capita.
