On 22 April, the Patent Office of the Republic of Latvia held an awards ceremony for those contributing to developing intellectual property. In the category of “Visionary,” the Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia (ISSP UL) was honoured for making significant strides in this direction.
The award was accepted by the Director of the Institute, Andris Anspoks, who shared his thoughts during the ceremony: "In a way, this is a major yet very pleasant surprise. Last year, the award went to Lightguide, and before that, to Aerones. This year, it is the Institute of Solid State Physics. It is excellent company to be in. Our greatest achievements are still ahead of us – which is likely why we received the ‘Visionary’ award. As I have often said, in science, it takes a decade to get from an idea to a finished product. We have invested this time, the first results are becoming visible, and this award is both a recognition and a motivation to keep moving forward, knowing we are on the right track."
We are deeply honored that the Patent Office recognizes the core values of our daily work and future vision – the ability to effectively utilise intellectual property protection as a strategic tool for boosting competitiveness and productivity. As our Director noted, this serves as a powerful catalyst to continue developing innovative solutions that elevate the profile of Latvian science globally.
