May 18, 2013, at the car parking lot of ISSP UL (Riga, Ķengaraga street 8) the competition closing event and the races took place during which the models designed by children were evaluated in different categories depending on their build.

Registration for the event: May 18 from 8:30 till 9:30, the opening of the race - 10:00.

This is the sixth year that the Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia organized the Solar Cup Competition. This year it was organized in collaboration with Cleantech Latvia and innovative business advisor „BRIDGIT!”.

146 participants and almost 40 teams had applied to the competition from the schools, technical schools and creative activity hobby groups from all around Latvia. At the closing event, the teams presented their solar-powered vehicle models. The parts for the models were provided by publishing house Lielvārds. In the competition, the vehicle models competed in speed, power and water disciplines according to their build and also the originality and relevance of the solutions were evaluated. Children also were tested in erudition discipline.

The participants of three best teams received valuable prizes. Besides, the special prizes were given by Solar Cup sponsors – Riga Energy Agency, SJSC Latvijas Hipotēku un Zemes banka, JSC „Gutta”, Sun museum, magazine „Ilustrētā Zinātne”, „Mars Latvija”Ltd, „Science Link”, as well as „LatFood” Ltd.

L'Oreal Baltic” Ltd. gave special prizes to the team members, who are girls. Whereas, special prize from JSCGutta went to a team using Gutta juice or Everest packaging for the design of their vehicle. JSC Gutta as an environmentally friendly company, recommended using juice packs for various creative projects as well as recycling them to make new drawing paper at the Ligatne paper mill.
