Project description:

CLOTcheck is a TRL-4 microfluidic point-of-care device designed to reproduce pathological arterial wall shear rates and enable the formation of platelet-rich clots from a small sample of untreated whole blood. The device provides a rapid end-volume readout for the assessment of thrombotic risk and bleeding disorders. Over an eight-month project period, the goal is to advance the technology to TRL-5 by transitioning to injection-molded cartridges and validating system performance in clinically relevant settings using cohorts of at least 20 participants.

The target performance parameters are a time-to-result of ≤10 minutes and reproducibility with a coefficient of variation of ≤10%. Project deliverables will include an injection-molded cartridge, verification reports, usability and workflow analysis data, and a “go/no-go” assessment package to support TRL-6 pilot studies and intellectual property filing. Manufacturing readiness will be supported by the ISSP-UL cleanroom infrastructure and pilot injection-molding capability. The device has strong application potential in emergency departments, operating rooms, intensive care units, and pre-hospital settings, including ambulances and HEMS.
