Latvia is ranked 41st in the World Intellectual Property Organisation’s (WIPO) 2022 Global Innovation Index (GII 2022). In 2018 and 2019, Latvia was ranked 34th, but slipped to 36th in 2020. In 2021, it moved further down to number 38.
Switzerland is the latest Global Innovation Index leader for the 12th year, followed by the USA, Sweden, the UK and the Netherlands. Estonia is ranked 18th and Lithuania 39th. The GII22 summarises the innovation performance of 132 economies around the world, shining a light on their strengths and weaknesses.
