The Latvian Academy of Sciences (LAS) has named the most significant achievements in Latvian science in 2020. Among them is the study of scientists of our Institute and the University of Tartu on the functional properties of modern materials in the conditions of extreme radiation and their prediction - the team of authors Dr. phys. A. Popovs, Dr. habil. phys. V. Kuzovkovs, LAS full member J. Kotomins, Dr. phys. D. Grjaznovs, MSc. A. Platonenko, PhD E. Šablonins, LAS foreign member prof. A. Luščiks.

In turn, the scientists of the ISSP UL - Dr. phys. Varis Karitāns, Dr. phys. Sergejs Fomins, Dr.habil.phys. Māris Ozoliņš, MSc. Katrīna Laganovska, MSc. Kārlis Kundziņš have received a Diploma of Recognition from the President of the LAS for the development of new optical and mathematical methods for improving the quality of images.

The LAS President's Diploma of Recognition has also been awarded for the research “New Methods of Synthesis of Purine Derivatives and Their Application in Materials Science”, which was elaborated in collaboration between scientists Irina Novosjolova, Dr. chem. Kaspars Traskovskis, MSc. Armands Sebris, MSc. Jānis Miķelis Zaķis, MSc. Kristers Ozols, MSc. Dace Cīrule, BSc. Andris Jeminejs, MSc. Natalija Tetervenoka, Dr.phys. Anatoly Mišņov, Dr.chem. Erika Bizdena, Dr.phys. Aivars Vembris, LAS full member Valdis Kokars and LAS full member Māris Turks from Riga Technical University Faculty of Materials Science and Applied Chemistry, Institute of Solid State Physics of University of Latvia and Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis.
