On August 14 and 15, the inaugural "Mērsraga ābols" science festival in the Latvian seaside offered a diverse, free-of-charge program filled with educational workshops, scientific shows, and expert lectures on topics ranging from energy to environmental protection.

The Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia (ISSP UL) also traveled to Mērsrags to share our discoveries. Researchers from our Energy Materials Laboratory hosted an interactive stand where visitors could assemble their own simplified, working batteries and pop hydrogen bubbles.

Our scientists, who are also active members of the LACISE project, happily answered the public's questions about the inner workings of advanced batteries and the ongoing progress in hydrogen energy technologies.

Participating in the festival was an excellent opportunity to demonstrate that modern science is not confined to laboratories – it uses opportunities like this to educate the public on the future of sustainable energy and inspire the next generation of researchers.
