The Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia (ISSP UL) will participate in the LAMPA conversation festival, where the international LACISE project will host an engaging panel discussion titled "Latvia's Role in Europe's Energy Freedom and Sustainability". The discussion will bring together leading experts from policy, industry, and science.

  • When? 10 July, 15:30 – 16:30
  • Where: LAMPA Conversation Festival, Cēsis (Stage "Europe is Here!" by the European Commission Representation in Latvia)

The annual LAMPA conversation festival serves as a platform for free, respectful, and open exchange of views on topics vital to society and the state. This year, ISSP UL is highlighting the issue of energy, which is no longer merely a technical task for engineers and grid operators, but has become a fundamental pillar of national security, economic growth, and the quality of everyday life.

The discussion "Latvia's Role in Europe's Energy Freedom and Sustainability" will seek answers on how policymakers, industry companies, and researchers can collaborate more effectively, and what role each plays in this energy chain.

The event will feature:

  • Gints Kučinskis – Head and Leading Researcher of the Energy Materials Laboratory at ISSP UL, LACISE project coordinator
  • Kaspars Melnis – Member of the 14th Saeima, former Minister of Climate and Energy
  • Aigars Laizāns – Professor and Leading Researcher at LBTU, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of LATVENERGO
  • Anna Mutule Energy researcher, LACISE project manager at EDI, RTU Professor and Leading Researcher
  • Vita Brakovska – discussion moderator

The discussion is organized with the support of the LACISE project, which by the collective work of Latvia and Switzerland aims to promote sustainable and efficient battery technologies, hydrogen energy solutions, and electricity grid efficiency & stability.

Latvia possesses strong scientific competencies and the potential to become a significant player in European-scale niches such as new materials, next-generation battery technologies, hydrogen production, and the integration of artificial intelligence in smart grids.

We invite all to join us in finding answers to the question: what can each of us do now and in the coming years to make Latvia more energy-secure, resilient, and independent!
