On 30 April, Scientists' Breakfast took place at the Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia (ISSP UL). This instalment focused on the value proposition and the significance of business models in scientific project proposals and their implementation.

Guest lecturer Aldis Greitāns, an experienced manager and associate professor at RTU Riga Business School, addressed the "Science vs. Market" paradox in his presentation. He explained why even the most outstanding discoveries do not always automatically become commercial successes and emphasized the necessity of quantifying the value proposition. This involves translating complex technical parameters into a language understood by investors and clients – focusing on metrics like time saved or reduced risk.

Special attention was paid to "Valley of Death" communication – how to build both an emotional and rational connection between a scientist and a sceptical investor. Attendees learned about customer segmentation based on the problem awareness scale, exploring how to more effectively communicate the necessity of new solutions to the market.

The event evolved into an interdisciplinary exchange of experience, involving not only ISSP UL colleagues but also guests from the BioPhoT platform. Many thanks to the participants for their engagement and to the guest lecturer for his valuable insights!
