Project description:
The growing interest in using biomaterials for bone injury treatment is driving the development of new biomaterials, leading to an increasing reliance on expensive and ethically complex in vivo animal testing to evaluate their effectiveness in bone regeneration. Therefore, there is an urgent need for microfluidic chip-based platforms that can accurately replicate biomaterial responses in vivo and vice versa. This project addresses this need by integrating expertise in microfluidic devices, biomaterials, in vitro tools, and molecular biology to develop a novel microfluidic chip-based in vitro preclinical evaluation platform for calcium phosphate-based biomaterials for bone tissue regeneration. The implementation of this project will contribute to Latvia's Smart Specialization field, "Smart Materials, Technologies, and Engineering Systems," and will promote the overall development of Latvia's economy as well as biomaterial research and development in healthcare.
