Scientific work at the ISSP UL is closely linked to the training of physics students at the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) of the University of Latvia.
Already during their bachelor’s and master’s studies, students have the opportunity to participate in the institute’s research activities and gain practical experience. Each year, a significant number from FST’s Physics Department students carry out their bachelor’s and master’s theses in the scientific laboratories of the ISSP UL.
At the doctoral level, collaboration with the institute becomes even more intensive. PhD students are actively involved in research projects, where they take on defined responsibilities and gain valuable experience not only in scientific work but also in project management and teamwork. Regular meetings with doctoral students are held at ISSP UL to review thesis progress and foster constructive discussions with peers and researchers. To support this process, the institute offers flexible working hours, making it easier to balance academic studies with laboratory research.
