Identification number: OSI_PIP_BioPhoT-2025/1-0037
Type: National Research Program - BioPhoT project
Duration: 01.10.2025. - 30.09.2026.
Project manager: Dr.phys. Anatolijs Šarakovskis, Institute of Solid State Physcis, University of Latvia (ISSP UL)
ISSP UL funding: 199 750 EUR
Project description:
The project will develop a high-precision fibre optic temperature sensor device designed for applications in environments with high-intensity electromagnetic noise. The durability, accuracy and extended temperature range of the device will ensure its market potential and will positively affect the economy and business. One patent application will be prepared and submitted, an application in an international or national research and development project competition. It is planned to increase the initial TRL3 level of the development to at least TRL4, moving towards TRL5 and create a prototype of the new technology. In addition, participation in at least two scientific-industrial conferences is planned.
The project will contribute to the Latvian Research and Innovation Smart Specialization Strategy (RIS3) in the field of photonics, smart materials, technologies and engineering systems and meets the following priorities: (2) Search for new products, etc.; (3) Creation of new materials, technological innovations, etc.; (6) Improved knowledge base and human capital in areas where Latvia has comparative advantages, etc. Environmental impact will be: simple, energy-efficient synthesis methods; use of non-toxic materials. Economic impact will be: cost-effective optical temperature sensor for industrial use. Social impact will be: the group will gain experience in managing industrially oriented projects.
