On March 27, the Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia (ISSP UL) hosted the second meeting of the members of the Memorandum of Understanding on the development of quantum technologies in Latvia took place, where participants got to know each other's current activities and details that must be considered to ensure the development of quantum technologies in the Latvian region.

Andris Anspoks, Director of ISSP UL, and Aivars Vembris, Head of the Organic Materials Laboratory at ISSP UL, spoke about the institute and its activities within the framework of quantum photonics.

Members continued by discussing key aspects to consider when developing quantum technologies. For example, Raitis Ādamsons, representing the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, presented the upcoming EU multiannual financing framework. Iveta Mežinska, Head of the Standardization Department of "Latvijas Standarts", drew attention to standardization in the quantum context.

Members also got acquainted with the current projects of several memorandum members – Andris Ambainis, Head of the University of Latvia Quantum Computer Science Centre, spoke about the innovations at the university, and Guna Soloveja, Head of the Research and Business Growth Department of TET, spoke more about their projects.

The talks were followed by a tour of ISSP UL, where members learned more about the institute's nanotechnology centre in a virtual tour, as well as went to see several laboratories, including those operating in the direction of quantum technologies.
