On March 16 a Latvian Television news segment highlighted Adriana Mauručaite, a young researcher at the Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia (ISSP UL). Adriana works in the fascinating world of thermoelectric materials – a technology that could one day allow everyday smart devices, such as smartwatches and medical equipment, to operate using only human body heat.
The scientist’s dedication is highly valued at ISSP UL – as her colleagues emphasize, Adriana stands out for her persistence, her drive to take on new challenges, and her confidence in presenting research results at high-level international conferences. These qualities are also highly regarded outside the Institute; the Latvian Academy of Sciences recently awarded Adriana the prestigious Ludvigs and Māris Jansons Prize in Physics.
