On 24–25 February, the Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia (ISSP UL) hosted partners for the new Eurofusion ENR project, “Development of Innovative Protective Coating for the First Wall,” and held the project’s kick-off meeting.
This project aims to develop advanced radiation-tolerant, thermally stable coatings for first-wall and structural applications in fusion reactors.
Under Project Leads Prof. Dr.-Ing. Bronislava Gorr and Dr. Marina Konuhova the project will be implemented over the next two years in collaboration between ISSP UL (Latvia), Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (Germany), and the Institute of Nuclear Physics (Kazakhstan).
All irradiation experiments within the project will be carried out within the framework of a long-term collaboration with Kazakhstan with Astana running tests in their ion accelerator and Almaty – the nuclear reactor.
In the kick-off meeting, the project members went over the latest items and nearest developments. Additionally, they embarked on a familiarization visit to the Ventspils International Radio Astronomy Centre (VIRAC), during which participants discussed possible directions for future collaboration.
