On 20 February, a launch event for the Latvian translation of the Czech author Alena Vostrá’s book “The Explosion Will Be at Six” took place in Riga – the story follows a fifth-grade boy who refuses to believe in the laws of physics and attempts to test them in real life.

The adventure-filled story was translated by Halina Lapiņa, who invited the Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia (ISSP UL) to take part in the opening event. With the support of researchers from our Laboratory of Micro and Nano Devices, guests were able to observe the laws of physics in action and feel a little closer to the book’s main character.

ISSP UL actively engages in science communication activities that go beyond conventional formats. We believe science should be discussed in diverse and accessible ways, so that society – from little children to their parents – increasingly recognises the importance and potential of high-quality research.
