On 6 February, 8th grade girl students from Ozolnieki visited the Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia (ISSP UL) to get a closer look at the different fields of materials science. The LACISE project gave the potential future physicists insight into research dedicated to sustainable energy.

During a tour of the institute’s laboratories, the students explored work with light-sensitive materials, as well as the laser equipment researchers use for spectroscopic measurements. With support from LACISE project members, the girls were also able to observe lithium-ion battery research and assemble their own test batteries, as well as learn more about hydrogen energy and its applications, for example in powering vehicles.

A big thank you to the students for their enthusiastic attention and thoughtful questions, and thanks as well to the LACISE project for welcoming young minds and opening the door to the fascinating world of physics!
