This June, Riga will host the 16th instalment of the international conference FM&NT 2026 (Functional Materials and Nanotechnologies). The conference brings researchers, engineers, industry representatives, and policymakers from across Europe and beyond to discuss the latest advances in the field, present current research results, and workshop the next steps of cooperations that can craft future innovations.
The aim of FM&NT 2026 is to strengthen the European research and innovation ecosystem.
How? Since its inception, FM&NT has supported the growth of science, education and innovation by providing Baltic and Nordic researchers with a forum for presenting cutting-edge research and exchanging thoughts on future directions. This leads to new ideas, scientific collaboration, and all in all – an environment for competitive and resilient technologies.
FM&NT 2026 will feature sessions and discussions on:
Materials for Energy
(batteries, supercapacitors, hydrogen, nuclear power)Materials for Photonics
(emission, detection, light transformation, quantum photonics)Ferroelectrics and Functional Materials
(inorganic, organic, hybrid and low-dimensional materials; van der Waals, topological and other ferroelectrics)Microfluidics and Biomedical Technologies
(organ-on-chip, lab-on-chip, biosensors, micro/nano sensing, micro-nano robotics, biomaterials)Theoretical Modelling of Functional Materials and Devices
(next-generation material prediction, Artificial Intelligence applications)Technologies and Devices
(nanotechnologies, sensors, thin films, coatings, fibre optics, lasers)Large-scale Research Infrastructure, Science Policy and Collaboration
(synchrotrons, neutron sources, FP10, innovation ecosystems and research collaboration)
The scientific programme will include plenary and invited lectures, oral and poster sessions, workshops, and industrial exhibitions, providing strong opportunities for networking and new collaborations.
