Andris Šternbergs, our Deputy Director for Science, is also Latvia's representative in the Fusion For Energy (F4E) Governing Board. F4E is the European Union organisation managing Europe’s contribution to ITER – the biggest scientific experiment on the path to fusion energy.

During their meeting on 10-11 July, the Governing Board approved an investment of 202 million EUR to the IFMIF-DONES project – a key material testing centre in the roadmap towards fusion power plants.

It’s inspiring to see Europe take leaps towards harnessing the potential of fusion energy. With investments like these, Europe tackles a strategic technology in the field of energy by empowering science to involve European industry, SMEs, and R&D organisations through various collaborations.
