For seven years now, the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Latvia has selected a graduate of the Bachelor's study programme “Physics” to receive the Kaspars Ērglis Memorial Scholarship for the most outstanding experimental final work. This year, the award was granted to Annija Melece, who earned a Bachelor’s degree in natural sciences, specializing in physics.
The Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia (ISSP UL) is especially delighted by this news, as Annija is also a laboratory assistant in our Microscopy Laboratory and developed her bachelor’s thesis right here. As part of her thesis, she created a device – an interferometer based on the Michelson interferometer – that enables the measurement of piezoelectric deformations with a precision far beyond the typical atomic scale. ISSP UL greatly values Annija’s contribution to the institute’s work and development – congratulations on this well-deserved award!
