On 26 March, the Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia (ISSP UL) hosted a special event exclusively for media representatives, offering them the opportunity to get acquainted with the institute, explore the laboratories, and learn about the latest research achievements and technologies that are already experiencing commercial success.
A strong emphasis was placed on the institute’s growth over the past decade – we have established several new laboratories and the National Centre for Nanotechnology, as well as modernized our infrastructure. The institute’s human resources have also grown, attracting talented scientists with experience abroad who have either returned to or come to work in Latvia. ISSP UL’s increasing recognition in the international research community is another indicator of our progress, as we are frequently invited to participate as partners in high-level international research projects.
The media were introduced to prototypes of innovations developed at the institute, as well as examples of innovations that have already been commercialized. In this regard, successful cooperation with industry has significantly strengthened at ISSP UL in recent years. Key drivers of this progress include streamlined commercialization processes – supporting the technological transfer of ideas from science to industry – and a transformation in researchers' mindset, namely the ability to see solutions and new applications for their discoveries and technologies.
The friendly and engaging atmosphere was ensured by the event host, Gustavs Terzens. Journalists had the opportunity to talk with scientists, ask questions, and take guided tours of the laboratories where high-level research is conducted.
Many thanks to all media representatives! We are always happy to collaborate and share stories about science – our research achievements, developments within our field of expertise, and the work of science more broadly.
