We’re always proud when scientists from the Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia (ISSP UL) are highlighted for everyone to see. This time the spotlight was on Annamarija Trausa, researcher in the Laboratory of Optical Materials – she was recently featured in a regional media outlet Alūksniešiem.lv.
Annamarija’s story is part of the media project “Quality of Life in Border Areas”, which showcases bright individuals who contribute to society while maintaining strong ties to their local roots. In the interview, she speaks about her journey into science – starting from curiosity in school, to studying physics and nanotechnology, and eventually working with advanced materials at ISSP UL.
She reflects on the complexity and excitement of research, the importance of perseverance, and the role of teamwork in scientific breakthroughs. Annamarija also shares her thoughts on how growing up in a small town shaped her perspective, and she encourages young people from similar regions to never fear aiming high.
We are delighted to see our researchers being recognized not only for their scientific excellence but also for the inspiration they provide to local communities. Annamarija’s story is a wonderful reminder how passion for science can take root and grow into something truly impactful.
