The Institute of Solid State Physics Institute, University of Latvia (ISSP UL) had the joy to participate in the 12th season of the Latvian youth erudition show "Gudrs, vēl gudrāks" (Smart, Even Smarter) to stimulate interest in STEM fields. Students from grades 5-12 competed in an exciting test of knowledge, answering questions from hosts and experts, covering topics in music, art, history, science and more.

ISSP UL researchers were actively involved in the show’s production, providing a total of 32 questions to all student age groups during the season. Our colleagues from the Optical Materials Laboratory, the Organic Materials Laboratory, the Energetic Materials Laboratory, the Spectroscopy Laboratory, the Vision Perception Laboratory and the Microscopy Laboratory prepared questions representing their respective fields, reflecting the breadth of the Institute's scientific research.

The broadcast was not only a great opportunity to bring the public closer to the ISSP UL and our researchers, but also served as a platform to inspire the next generation of scientists in pursuing fields of science represented by the Institute. It’s also great to use the show as a chance to shatter stereotypes about STEM fields and science – the questions were composed and asked by young and experienced scientists alike, as well as our outstanding female researchers, reinforcing that science is a field for all.

Recordings of the show are available on LTV.lv or REplay.lv
