THE BRIDGE BETWEEN ACADEMIC RESEARCH AND COMMERCIAL-SCALE MANUFACTURING
By translating lab-scale concepts (such as PDMS and 3D prints) into scalable thermoplastic microfluidic devices, the pilot line accelerates the development of advanced diagnostic systems, biosensors, and lab-on-a-chip technologies.
■ CERTIFIED INFRASTRUCTURE: ISO 9001 and ISO 14644 certified 650 m² cleanrooms fit for high-precision manufacturing.
■ RECORD OF SUCCESS: Delivered on 30+ microfluidics projects in partnership with academia and industry.
■ NO SCALING BOTTLENECKS: Limited early-stage tooling expenses and easily transferable PDMS designs.
Application areas:
■ Biomedical and clinical diagnostic devices
■ Sample preparation devices
■ Biosensors and integrated lab-on-a-chip systems
■ Organ-on-a-chip and advanced cell culture platforms
■ Environmental and food safety testing instruments
Target audiences:
■ Biotech startups focusing on diagnostics and lab-on-a-chip solutions
■ Academic and institutional research teams
■ University and institute spin-offs
■ Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) transitioning to thermoplastic manufacturing
The Scale-Up Pathway
Go from initial lab concepts to manufacturable polymer microfluidics in three development stages:
1. Design-for-Manufacturing (DfM)
2-4 weeks • Rapid Prototyping
Conversion of academic layouts (PDMS, 3D prints) into injection-molding designs. Rapid iteration using OSTE-COC bonded chips (75.5 × 25.5 mm footprint) for early-stage validation.
2. Custom Insert Molding
3-8 months • Pilot Production
Production of 10 to 10,000 units utilizing modular aluminium or steel tool inserts – validating performance in the real world without full-scale tooling capital expenditure.
3. Custom Microfluidics
6+ months • High-Precision Scale-Up
Fully customized geometries and parts up to a 12g shot size using dedicated Zhafir ZE 400-5 micro-injection molding equipment.
