The aim of the project is to develop new and effective light emitting amorphous phase forming organic materials- molecular glasses that are suitable for low-cost, solution based device production techniques. In order to demonstrate the practical application possibilities of the proposed material design, monochromic or while light emitting diodes (OLED or wOLED) will be developed from the most promising compounds. The project implementation will include the synthesis, purification, structure determination of the materials, their thermoplastic characterization and initial measurements of light emitting properties and efficiencies. The later stages of the research will be related to the characterization of the electroluminescence properties, including, emission kinetics, energy structure determination of the electronic states, charge carrier transport properties and OLED fabrication. The structural approach of the materials will be based on an active light emitting molecule that will be functionalized with solubility and glass formation enhancing auxiliary groups (derivatives of thiphenylmethane). The target compounds will be suitable for the production of thin glassy films using solution-processing methods like spin-coating from volatile solvents. Green to red phosphorescent cyclometalated iridium (III) complexes and blue fluorescent purine derivatives will be used as the emitting molecules.
