Copper nitride (Cu3N): structure, properties and applications

Copper nitride (Cu3N) has unusual antiperovskite-type atomic structure, and its lattice dynamics is driven by the anisotropic thermal vibrations of copper atoms. Recently it has attracted attention due to its possible applications as a material for write-once read many (WORM) optical storage media, optical lithography and for a fabrication of low-resistance magnetic tunnel junctions for use in non-volatile magnetic random access memory. Besides, it is also promising candidate for solar energy conversion applications.

At the seminar the information on copper nitride properties and applications will be given, and original results of the synchrotron radiation studies of its structure and lattice dynamics will be presented.
